| Sustainable
South Bronx sought our help when it was forming
as a nonprofit to embark on projects for the long-term
economic and environmental health of the South Bronx.
We matched them with pro bono attorneys from Stroock
& Stroock & Lavan, who created Sustainable South Bronx
as a not-for-profit, tax-exempt entity in 2001. The
firm continues as volunteer general counsel. Legal work
includes successfully negotiating contracts with developers
and funders, thereby enabling this client to train
dozens of Bronx residents to work in environmental jobs
and design greenway for community residents along the
Bronx River.
"We are pleased to partner with Lawyers Alliance on
business law pro bono. A team of Stroock lawyers, from
corporate, tax, real estate, intellectual property and
other departments, have worked side by side with Sustainable
South Bronx and its dynamic leader, Majora Carter, on
projects to improve quality of life for South Bronx
residents." |
