Immigrant Communities
Lawyers Alliance helps new immigrants learn english, access
social services, secure information and employment, and fully
participate in civic life in New York.
Clients include newly forming immigrant groups, settlement
houses, coalitions of immigrant-serving organizations, and
other nonprofits working with immigrants and refugees.
| The New York
Association of New Americans (NYANA) sought
our help to strengthen loan policies at its Business
Center for New Americans, which makes loans and provides
training for immigrants and refugees starting small businesses.
Pro bono attorneys from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP
provided legal and regulatory guidance that enabled
the Center to enhance its procedures for processing,
documenting, closing and collecting payment on loans.
Through the Center, NYANA has disbursed over
$2 million in micro-loans and is directing financial
resources to immigrant communities to create jobs and
increase commercial activity.
"Lawyers Alliance helped me find NYANA, which does
lending work that involves similar legal issues as those
faced by my larger clients, and I had an extremely rewarding
pro bono experience." |
