Avie Bertaccini
As Program Associate for Client Relations, Ms. Bertaccini serves as the primary day-to-day liaison between Lawyers Alliance and its current and prospective clients. She actively engages in outreach to community-based and other nonprofit organizations, coordinates the client intake and screening process, responds to numerous inquiries from nonprofit groups, and strives to ensure that clients receive prompt and appropriate legal assistance. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2009, Ms. Bertaccini earned her M.S.W from Hunter College and B.A. from Vassar College.

Jolynda Burton
As Pro Bono Manager, Jolynda Burton oversees Lawyers Alliance's client intake and pro bono recruitment efforts. Working with more than 100 law firms and corporations, she strives to bring the best legal services to nonprofit clients and the highest quality pro bono experiences to volunteer attorneys. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2005, she worked in legal recruiting at the law firms of Jones Day and Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman. She received her B.A. from New York University in 1993 and is an active volunteer with several nonprofit groups in New York and New Jersey. Professional Activities: New York State Bar Association Pro Bono Coordinators Network, Pro Bono and Legal Services Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Erika Byrnes
As development director, Ms. Byrnes oversees Lawyers Alliance's fundraising program, raising capital from: law firms, foundations, banks, corporations, government agencies, and individuals. She rejoins Lawyers Alliance after previously serving as development director from 1997-2001. Most recently, Ms. Byrnes was a fundraising consultant for Washburn Partners. Her previous experience includes serving as vice president for development and communications for the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation and director of corporate and foundation relations for the NYU Stern School of Business. She holds an M.B.A. from NYU Stern and a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College. Community service activities: Treasurer of the West Side Children's Fund and a volunteer for Brooklyn Heights Synagogue, ISSUE Project Room, Packer Collegiate Institute, and Mount Holyoke College.

Carolyn Canahuate
As Office Administrator, Carolyn Canahuate provides invaluable support for all aspects of Lawyers Alliance's office facility and administrative functions. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in January 2011, she was the project manager for schools in the Northeast and New York City region for Kaplan’s K-12 division. Ms. Canahuate received her B.A. from Baruch College in 2006.

Emily Crossan
As Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Emily Crossan works to reinforce Lawyers Alliance's reputation among nonprofit clients, volunteer attorneys, and communities served. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2011, Ms. Crossan worked in communications at a number of nonprofit organizations, including The Children's Aid Society and the Child Care Action Campaign. She received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1994.

Nicole Cuttino
Staff Attorney Nicole Cuttino brings valuable commercial real estate and corporate restructuring experience and a strong public interest commitment to Lawyers Alliance. She leads the Children and Youth Services program area, representing child care providers, afterschool programs, charter schools, and organizations serving older or at risk youth. In addition, she advises Lawyers Alliance's substantial client base of community-based and nonprofit groups about business and transactional law issues. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2011, Ms. Cuttino was an associate at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP. She received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law in 2005 and a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 2002.

Sean Delany
As Executive Director, Mr. Delany positions Lawyers Alliance among peer institutions, law firms, community-based organizations, and the general public. Mr. Delany works with the organization's Board and staff to carry out all aspects of its operations. Mr. Delany also advises nonprofits in the areas of exempt organizations tax law and nonprofit law, with a focus on the regulation of lobbying and political activity. Prior to becoming Executive Director in 1999, Mr. Delany was legal director at Lawyers Alliance, section chief and then assistant attorney general in charge of the Charities Bureau of the New York State Attorney General's Office, and staff attorney at Bronx Legal Services. He received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1980 and B.A. from Hamilton College in 1974. Professional Activities: Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities of the Internal Revenue Service; Board of Advisors, Frances L. & Edwin L. Elizabeth M. Guggenheimer
As Deputy Executive Director, Ms. Guggenheimer works with the Board and staff to carry out all aspects of Lawyers Alliance's mission, with a focus on external relations. She oversees Lawyers Alliance's pro bono program, law firm relationships, marketing, special legal projects, and strategic planning. She has significant experience in advising nonprofits in the areas of Nonprofit Accountability, fundraising law and regulation, and legal ethics. From 1999-2006, she was legal director at Lawyers Alliance. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance, Ms. Guggenheimer served as deputy bureau chief of the Charities Bureau of the New York State Attorney General's Office and was a litigator at Dewey Ballantine LLP. She received a joint J.D./M.P.A. from New York University School of Law and Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1987 and an A.B. maga cum laude with highest honors from Harvard University in 1982. Douglas Kato
As Director of Finance and Administration, Douglas Kato oversees the daily operations of the accounting and finance functions at Lawyers Alliance. Mr. Kato is a Certified Public Accountant and Financial Controller. His career includes public accounting and corporate accounting for several for-profit and non-profit organizations. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance for New York, he was Controller for the American Jewish Historical Society and Director, Finance for the American Red Cross in Greater New York. Mr. Kato graduated with a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Professional Activities: He is a member of the New Jersey State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Kato serves as a volunteer and is a past treasurer on the Board of Trustees of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, New Jersey Metro Chapter.

Linda S. Manley
Legal Director Linda Manley oversees Lawyers Alliance’s client representation services and manages the in-house attorney staff. Ms. Manley has significant experience in the areas of childcare, mergers and strategic alliances, corporate restructuring, nonprofit governance and coping with financial distress. She also initiated Lawyers Alliance's Elder Services program area, which counsels nonprofits ranging from large multi-service agencies to stand-alone senior centers. From 1997-2006, Ms. Manley was a staff attorney and senior staff attorney at Lawyers Alliance. Previously, she was an associate at the law firms of Jones Day and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, and she served as law clerk to Hon. Loretta A. Preska in the Southern District of New York. She received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1991 and B.A. magna cum laude from State University of New York at Albany in 1988. Professional Activities: Board of Trustees, Grand Concourse Academy Charter School; Board Member, ECQ Group; Low Income Investment Fund Child Care Seed Fund Advisory Group.

Mireille Martineau
As Program Associate for Pro Bono, Ms. Martineau is the day-to-day liaison between Lawyers Alliance and its current and prospective volunteers. She engages in outreach to law firms and corporations and coordinates the staffing of pro bono matters, striving to ensure that volunteers have the most rewarding experience possible. Before joining Lawyers Alliance, Ms. Martineau managed the office at the Neighborhood Economic Development Advocacy Project. Ms. Martineau is a 2010 graduate of New York University Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service where she attained a master's degree in urban planning with a specialization in housing and economic development. She received her B.A. from Fordham University in 2008.

Judith Moldover
Judith Moldover is a Senior Staff Attorney at Lawyers Alliance for New York. She leads Lawyers Alliance’s Accountability
Initiative, which provides legal help to nonprofits in areas of sound board governance, fiscal transparency, and proper personnel management. In addition, Ms. Moldover provides legal guidance to New York City Head Start programs. Ms. Moldover is also an experienced employment lawyer. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in early 2008, Ms. Moldover was Of Counsel at Ford & Harrison LLP, Vice President and Group Counsel at American Express Company, and Labor Counsel at CBS Corporation. She received her B.A. cum laude from Bryn Mawr College and her J.D. from Boston University School of Law.

Hedwig O'Hara
Senior Staff Attorney Hedwig O'Hara has more than 20 years of experience in affordable housing development and leads the Affordable Housing and Homeless Services program area, which focuses on business law services to nonprofit organizations engaged in affordable housing development, neighborhood revitalization, supportive housing, and services to the homeless. Ms. O'Hara also uses her financing and real estate law expertise to help additional Lawyers Alliance clients with complex real estate law needs. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2002, Ms. O'Hara was an attorney with Brown & Wood LLP, Battle Fowler LLP, and Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. She received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1991 and B.A. cum laude from City University of New York at Hunter College in 1978. Staff Attorney Miriam Osner brings to Lawyers Alliance corporate law experience, with a background in real estate, real estate finance, and affordable housing construction. Elizabeth Perez
Staff Attorney Elizabeth Perez brings to Lawyers Alliance valuable corporate law experience and a strong public interest commitment. She coordinates the Immigrant Communities program area, which helps nonprofits that are improving the quality of life of low-income immigrants in New York City, as well as the Elder Services program area, which is aimed at strengthening nonprofits that help low-income seniors. In addition, she advises Lawyers Alliance's full range of nonprofit clients about business and transactional law issues. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2007, Ms. Perez was an associate at Clifford Chance US LLP. She received her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 2004, an LL.M. from the University of London in 2004, and a B.A. from Texas A&M University in 2000.

Aaron Perlson
As Information Systems Manager, Aaron Perlson oversees and maintains Lawyers Alliance's computer network. He is responsible for ensuring that Lawyers Alliance's servers, workstations, databases, and other technical systems run smoothly. He also helps Lawyers Alliance collect, maintain, and analyze data in an efficient and effective manner. He has been part of Lawyers Alliance since 1996, previously serving as office assistant and then pro bono coordinator. Mr. Perlson received his B.A. in Applied Mathematics from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1985.

Senior Staff Attorney Neil Stevenson is responsible for Lawyers Alliance's Economic Development program area. He uses his wealth of experience in corporate and real estate law to assist community development and nonprofit organizations that are bringing investment capital and credit services, stimulating and revitalizing commercial activity, and sponsoring job training and job placement programs in New York City. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in 2004, Mr. Stevenson was a staff attorney at The Legal Aid Society and partner at Eaton & Van Winkle. He received an L.L.M from Columbia University School of Law in 1982 and L.L.B joint honours from the University of Glasgow School of Law in 1980.

Kendra Sykes
As Program and Database Assistant, Kendra Sykes works closely with Lawyers Alliance's staff to ensure that case and contact information about clients, volunteers, donors, and alumni is current. She also provides program support for events, client and volunteer outreach, and closes out case files on completed volunteer projects. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance in January 2012, Ms. Sykes worked as a program assistant at the Social Science Research Council. She received a B.A. in Political Science from Bryn Mawr College in 2010.

Irum Taqi
Irum Taqi joined Lawyers Alliance as Senior Policy Counsel in 2011 as part of Lawyers Alliance's increased commitment to supporting the nonprofit sector's advocacy role in the legislative and public policy arena. She spearheads Lawyers Alliance's Advocacy Initiative, whereby Lawyers Alliance assists nonprofit advocacy organizations with business law issues including lobbying regulation, and it shares its expertise on legislative and public policy issues affecting community-based and resource-constrained nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance, Ms. Taqi was Deputy General Counsel at the New York City Public Advocate's Office, where she led campaigns in support of governmental accountability and affordable housing. In addition, Ms. Taqi has served as legislative counsel at Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health, the Center for Reproductive Rights, and New York Civil Liberties Union. She earned her B.A. from Vassar College in 1996 and her J.D. from Fordham Law School in 2001, where she was a Crowley Scholar in International Human Rights and a Stein Scholar in Public Interest Law and Ethics.
