Resources for Volunteers
Lawyers Alliance offers resources to volunteers to help with
the legal and practical issues that may arise in advising
nonprofits. They include:
Co-counseling support: For
each matter placed with a volunteer, a Lawyers Alliance staff
member serves as co-counsel to answer questions and address
other needs related to the pro bono project.
Probono.net:
We host the "Community Development and Nonprofit Law" section
of Probono.net
in New York, which offers free downloadable model documents
and memoranda relevant to representing nonprofits. Membership
is free at www.probono.net
Resource Calls: Volunteer attorneys
may call our Resource Call Hotline with questions about any
legal issue affecting nonprofits at (212) 219-1800 x 224
Publications: "Getting
Organized" and our other publications are also useful
for attorneys representing nonprofits.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Programs:
We offer an annual CLE training on legal issues that help
our volunteers work effectively with nonprofits. In addition,
our staff members regularly speak on bar association CLE panels
addressing nonprofit legal issues.
